The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels — What it is and why it matters
By Alex Epstein, founder, Center for Industrial Progress

How to think about our energy future Is humanity’s continuing—and expanding—use of fossil fuels a moral choice or an immoral choice? To answer this question, we need to be clear on our standard of value—our metric of good and bad—in energy and environmental issues. At the Center for Industrial Progress, we reject the common standard of minimizing human impact. Our standard of value is: maximizing human flourishing. To discover what will maximize human flourishing we must think full context—we must carefully look at the benefits, risks, and side effects of all our alternatives. We reject the common method of thinking out-of-context. Thus, when we consider fossil fuels, we do not write them off as bad because they cause some man-made CO2 and some man-made warming. We look carefully at the full context of their potential impacts on human flourishing now and in the future. Fossil fuels & human flourishing: the benefits The unmet need for cheap, plentiful, reliable energy: ● There are 7 billion people in the world who need cheap, plentiful, reliable energy to flourish. Some 3 billion have virtually no energy by our standards, which means we need vastly more energy. ● It is extremely difficult to produce cheap, plentiful, reliable energy. In the entire history of humanity, only three industries have achieved this on any scale: the hydrocarbon (fossil fuel) industry, the nuclear industry, and the hydroelectric power industry. The unique ability of the fossil fuel industry to meet our energy needs: ● The fossil fuel industry produces over 80% of the world’s power because it is the only industry that has figured out how to produce cheap, plentiful, reliable energy for electricity, transportation, and heating on a scale of billions. ● Since the energy industry is the industry that powers every other industry, the fossil fuel industry increases productivity and prosperity in every area of life, from agriculture (diesel-powered farm equipment) to hospitals (24/7 electricity). ● The only industries that can meaningfully supplement fossil fuel energy are the nuclear and hydroelectric industries, which are widely opposed by environmentalists. Even without this opposition fossil fuels would still be irreplaceable for decades to come. Hydro is limited by lack of suitable locations. Nuclear has the long-term potential to expand greatly, but is many decades away from scaling to the level of billions. ● For these reasons, any restriction on fossil fuel use would do devastating damage. This must be factored into all policy debates over restricting fossil fuels to reduce CO2 or other byproducts. About the author: Alex Epstein, founder of the Center for Industrial Progress, is a humanist philosopher who seeks to identify the full context of industrial and environmental controversies. His New York Times bestseller The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels has been widely praised as the most persuasive argument ever made against climate catastrophism, and led The McLaughlin Group to name Epstein the most original thinker of 2014. Fossil fuels & human flourishing: environmental concerns The number one environmental concern: climate impacts ● To assess the climate-related impacts of fossil fuel use, we have to carefully assess the consequences to human flourishing of 1) the warming impact of CO2, 2) the fertilizing effect of CO2, 3) the protecting effect of affordable energy for all climate danger. ● The warming impact of CO2 is mild and quite possibly positive--in no way does it justify restricting fossil fuel use whatsoever. ○ It is a proven but little-known fact that the greenhouse effect of CO2 is a diminishing, logarithmic effect; each molecule of CO2 warms less than the last. ○ The belief that increases in CO2 will cause runaway warming are based on speculative climate dynamics represented in models that have utterly failed to predict climate. ○ Global average temperatures and CO2 levels are near all-time lows from a geological perspective; today’s CO2 levels are an estimated 1/20th their all time high (a highly fertile period). ○ Warming is almost universally desired among civilizations, with cold-related deaths dramatically greater than heat-related deaths. In general, life thrives under warmer conditions. ● The widely-ignored fertilizing effect of CO2 is significant and positive, yet ignored; a proper energy and environmental discussion must take it into account. ○ Increasing CO2 levels is a proven driver of plant growth, which is why greenhouses contain 3 times as much CO2 as our atmosphere. ○ Satellite data show dramatic increases in plant growth in uninhabited locations as CO2 levels have increased over the past several decades. ○ Increased CO2 has also contributed significantly to crop yields and helped millions avoid malnutrition or starvation. ● The widely-ignored protecting effect of fossil fuels is spectacularly positive; it has helped us take the inherently dangerous climate and make it far safer than it has ever been. ○ While the climate debate treats the global climate system as naturally stable and safe, it is in fact naturally volatile and vicious. Climate safety requires climate protection through development and technology--both of which are fueled by affordable energy. ○ The international disaster database, which tracks climate-related deaths--including deaths from flood, droughts, extreme heat, extreme cold, storms, and wildfires--shows a 98% decrease in the rate of climate-related deaths since significant CO2 emissions began 80 years ago. ○ Fossil fuel use doesn’t take a safe climate and make it dangerous, it takes a dangerous climate and makes it safe. For a full analysis of the environmental impacts of fossil fuels, including air, water, and resource impacts, see the book The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels. Help change the conversation If we truly look at fossil fuel energy by the standard of human flourishing, we discover that it is not an immoral product we need to restrict but a moral product we need to liberate--just as we need to liberate other persecuted sources of energy such as nuclear power and hydroelectric power. Our society’s lack of a clear, pro-human, full-context framework for thinking about energy is leading to disastrous, anti-fossil-fuel, antinuclear, anti-hydro policy decisions that are already harming millions and will harm billions. #Brad Walters Doesn't Speak For Me

I do not think I am exaggerating my concerns when it comes to the 'education' this professor is delivering to the students at the university ... here he declares he wants a fossil fuels free future on behalf of MAFA! Unbelievable.

If the youth under Brad's instructions are being indoctrinated against fossil fuels and against white european descendants / settlers in 2017 .. they are promoting 'decolonization' and 'indiginization' [racist and divisive work] along with the end to the use of fossil fuels .. this is radical and harmful work they are being engaged in .. if you want to understand their perspective and behaviour watch this video from Divest MTA facebook from February 2017... and to understand further what they are implying and who their alliances are research the 'no one is illegal' open borders movement too ...... Youth should be promoting not destroying Canadian progress, industry, development and prosperity .. see CanadaAction.ca to help, not hurt, the future of this great country that produces ethical oil, with innovation and safety on a top level we need more Canadian energy and less professors spewing their vitriol..  #Fire Brad Walters #Stop the Anti-White Propaganda #End Youth Indoctrination #Support Canadian Ethical Oil

MTA Argosy article... Non-prescribed study-enhancing drug use...

'

Front and back of an mta.ca info card found on the ground
..
[ article shared at The Argosy online ~ reprinted without permission ]

“First I get sweaty, then I get kind of excited. There’s a come-up phase where you kind of feel it,” said Ted (pseudonym). “You start reading, you look at the clock and it’s two hours later, and you’ve done 200 pages.”
Ted is a Mount Allison student, and is among a growing number of university students worldwide who use focus-enhancing stimulants like Adderall, Ritalin, Concerta or Vyvanse without a prescription to help them study. These drugs are usually prescribed to treat conditions like Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), but students without these conditions who take them say the drugs sharpen focus and allow them to study or work for much longer periods of time than normal.
Ted said he uses these drugs once or twice per week, on average, but sometimes more frequently before midterms or exams. He may be able to work for upward of 12 hours straight after using, depending what kind of drug he takes and its dosage. He added that he doesn’t necessarily take it do better academically, but to do the same amount of work in a shorter period of time.
While Ted takes the drugs with some regularity, he may be among the more moderate users at Mt. A.
“It’s always available when I have expendable money. It’s like an everyday, once-a-day [habit] in the morning,” said Chris (pseudonym), a Mt. A student who uses the drugs non-prescribed
Chris says he’ll take these drugs every day for weeks at a time, sometimes spending up to $70 per week on them.
“I have a passion for things that I feel is taken away when I’m lazy,” said Chris. “That passion is subdued by fatigue and mental exhaustion that I can reignite and take full advantage of when I use something like Adderall or Vyvance, and it just seems perfect for a student.”
Chris said he’s aware of the danger of addiction posed by using these drugs so regularly, and makes himself go on several-week-long “tolerance breaks” throughout the term. His productivity goes down, but he says he does it because he wants to go to graduate school and is concerned about relying on the drugs by then.
Chris and Ted said they buy study-enhancing drugs from friends with prescriptions and that more serious dealers of these drugs are rare in Sackville. Ted said single pills range from $3 to $10 each, depending on which type of drug they are and whether they have short or long release times, with long-release Adderall usually fetching the highest prices. Both said they started using in high school and that these drugs are commonly used in Mt. A’s residences.
“If you can’t find it in res., it’s probably because you put no effort in or you don’t have any friends,” said Ted. “It’s very easy to find. Not everyone does it, but it’s definitely there.”
Ted added that many students in residence don’t stop at popping study pills. Some crush up drugs like Adderall or Concerta and snort them, which he described as a “shitty experience all around.”
Jane (pseudonym) is another Mt. A student who has used these drugs to help her study. She was recently diagnosed with ADHD and now takes Vyvance on prescription, which she said makes her study and feel normally, but she took study-enhancing drugs before her diagnosis to help her focus. She now sells surplus pills from her prescription, which she gets both by requesting higher dosages from her physician and by not using the medication over breaks.
“I think more people than you would expect have tried it, or wanted it,” said Jane.
Jane, Chris and Ted all agreed that non-prescribed study drugs are widely used at Mt. A. Ted estimated up to 20 per cent of students have tried or use them regularly, Jane estimated 30 per cent of students take them with some regularity, and Chris said that a “huge majority” have tried them but that fewer use regularly. Chris added that he thinks university culture makes students who wouldn’t usually do drugs try them, as substance experimentation and abuse is normalized in universities.
“The use is so rampant because someone can say, ‘Yeah, I can do Adderall,’ without fearing serious social repercussions being a college student,” said Chris.
Relatively little is known about how widely these drugs are used in Canadian universities, but these estimations are in line with some past research. A 2011 editorial from the Canadian Medical Association Journal said 5 to 35 per cent of university students may use non-prescribed study drugs, while the 2013 National College Health Assessment Survey found 3.7 per cent of Canadian post-secondary students reported using the drugs. Other student newspapers across Canada have also reported widespread drug use for academic purposes, such as student newspapers from the University of British Columbia, University of Toronto, McGill and Dalhousie.
According to Adam Christie, Mt. A’s manager of international affairs and acting head of student life, the university doesn’t have any information on how common this drug use is at Mt. A.
“This is the first time it’s come up on my radar,” said Christie. “It’s obviously a concern.”
Taking prescription drugs without a prescription or selling personal prescription drugs is illegal under the 1996 Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and under Mt. A’s 1994 Liquor Policy, use of any illegal drug on campus is forbidden. Christie said this policy is being updated as part of a new student code of conduct, pending approval and implementation. The draft for this code of conduct states, “No student shall be in possession of, furnish to anyone, consume or furnish non-prescription drugs or prescription drugs for recreational purposes.”
Using non-prescribed study drugs may also carry some medical risk. According to Cindy Crossman, nurse-educator for the Wellness Centre, taking any drug without a prescription could cause allergic reactions, amplify adverse side effects associated with that drug, or become dangerous when mixed with other drugs or alcohol. Some stimulants in particular, such as Adderall, may become dangerous at higher dosages, leading to risk of heart complications and even death. Snorting these drugs when crushed up may increase these risks, as it shortens their release time and changes how they become distributed around the body as well. Crossman said she recommends against taking any drug without a prescription.
Christie said he would sooner educate students and encourage them not to use study-enhancing drugs than to legislate against them.
“I’m more interested in knowing the root cause. Why are students feeling like this is an option for them, or even a necessity? Is it a workload issue […] is it pressure on wanting to maintain a certain GPA? A certain scholarship?” said Christie.
Lily (pseudonym) takes non-prescribed study-enhancing drugs a few times per term, usually around exams and important assignments. She said she takes them mainly because there’s not enough time for her to study while being an involved student, and that other high-achieving students she knows take them as well.
“We’re kind of expected, as students, to not only excel in [our] classes but do 100 other things at the same time,” said Lily. “I think that’s what it comes down to: time management. It’s ‘How do I do well in all my classes plus the five extracurriculars I’m doing and then the thing I volunteer for then this other thing I said I’d do?’ So I think it’s very high expectations across the board.”
The Argosy gave the students interviewed in this article pseudonyms to protect their identities and privacy, given the illicit nature of these drugs.   [ Clay Steell... April 6, 2016 ]

I had a chance to chat briefly the other day with a student on campus on fossil fuels .. I said to him "I love fossil fuels" .. as he walked away from me he said .. 'that's a douchey thing to say' .. I apologized if I had offended him but I said again .. "I love fossil fuels" .. and I do ... I'm grateful for our standard of living made possible by fossil fuels.. I wish the young people protesting fossil fuels on campus and the climate had a real handle of what they should be concerned about .. they're been left completely in the dark .. that's sad.

James Bissett: Issues in Canadian Immigration and Refugee Policy

Refugee Policy is extremely important and policy should be sensible not wreckless.  As of 2001, Canada had 579,000 muslims which is 2% of the populatlion growing to 1,053,845 which is 3.2% of our population by 2012; an enormous increase; and roughly speaking about 1/4 of the immigrants we bring in now are muslims .. these immigrants can bring their relatives in as well ... under 'family reunification' ... increasing care costs as they age and burden the medical system...

Re: Sackville's Refugee Resettlement Contracting Agents aka SRRC

A 'group' of people do not speak for the entire region of Tantramar ... there are many silent people here who have never been asked and never been consulted on this project... and with over thousands and thousands of people left in the dark and unaware its worth reporting on ... a small vocal shrill minority cannot speak for me.....  that is the simple truth.... in the summer of 2015 cash collectors for UNHCR came through our region to gather their 'seed' money for the parties involved [churches, rotary, and university volunteers] in contracting with the United Nations High Commission on Refugees -- a globalist organization ... keep that in mind... and keep in mind that this 'work' is also part of the effort to 'seed' people into the Maritimes where they never have existed before ... people who do not speak English or French or share our customs...

SRRC may have been given a lot of promotion and media coverage including CBC [left wing biased media] .. but there are only admittedly 100 people in this SRRC "Sackville Refugee Response Coalition" [facebook page has seemingly many supporters .. many of them don't live here, are students at the university ie. visitors, non-permanent voices who do not represent the actual resident population at all] .. and because most supporters remain anonymous online its almost impossible to oppose them directly... this group has been militantly led from the beginning by a prominent very well paid long time MTA university chaplain ....

a man who appears to have a very strong desire to impart the message that "we are all global citizens" [we are not .. we are Canadians and we have rights and freedoms and a way of life that we are duty bound to protect and defend ] .. because of his unique position as a global citizen it makes for a difficult conversation and difficult scenario [unprecedented] ... this self appointed chair is a 'diversity builder' / 'community leader' and an award winning 'citizen' with a lot of clout .. there is no denying his amplified authority and ranking in Sackville... he's been given a lot of praise... but he's also been told directly that he does not have the support of everyone.. he insisted on meeting with me and I refused .... I do not engage with communitarians as a rule .. I simply let them know that I oppose them.  He took my criticism of his actions as a threat to him which it most certainly was not; it was merely notice of opposition to his wreckless and unreasonable actions in a region that he considers 'lacking in diversity'.

Understanding that there has been public opposition to their collectivists' agenda as agents for the UNHCR and that this quiet opposition has been legally and duly noted with the police, the university and its lawyers since 2015 is important because the lack of transparency and accountability to the public is problematic. Follow "Refugee Resettlement Watch" [Facebook], I do and I have since 2015.

"Seeding Towns for Diversity" is their modus operandi .. it is a business for profit, a contracting effort and is promoted through churches and other organizations like the Rotary and the University campus chaplain's office at Mount Allison University you have choice to support it or to resist; they may NOT like the fact they have resistance, but they do... and that is just a simple truth.

Since 1991, our Canadian government has allowed the entry of 250,000 immigrants per year, which amounts to 7 million newcomers--this is not a small number, is it?  This is a policy and its also a way to change the demographics of Canada forever from its European Canadian [french, english speaking] based culture to something entirely different .. and we have all been told continually that we are a 'multicultural' nation [since the 70s by Pierre Trudeau] and now to today's Trudeau who claims we are " post-national " read CEC article here  ... and that under his policy everyone is welcome .. when has parliament ever debated this immigration influx? Never.   [Justin does not speak for me .. nor do I think his partnership with George Soros, billionaire captain of chaos financier is wise].... If you want your country to be an 'open borders' post-national state simply continue to support the Liberals and Trudeau and keep your mouth shut ...

because in a matter of decades it will be changed forever... policy does matter a lot.  For more on the statistics and facts go to  http://immigrationwatchcanada.org [click link]  There are lots of good reasons to push-back here, now.. lots of people who do not wish to see Canada changed from its EuroCanadian roots and history and culture and distinctiveness... never take for granted what is so great about Canada...

Canada is Governed By Technocrats in 2017

Trudeau Says His Goal Is To Kill Million Jobs In Alberta

Published on January 13, 2017 in Canada

Justin Trudeau has a long term goal for Alberta, a very shitty goal, a goal that’s going to cost millions of jobs.

Trudeau said on Friday his plan is to phase out all oilsand mines in Alberta.
“We can’t shut down the oilsands tomorrow. We need to phase them out. We need to manage the transition off of our dependence on fossil fuels but it’s going to take time and in the meantime we have to manage that transition,” he said in Peterborough.
Trudeau also said again that it is the responsibility of the national government to get Canadian resources to market.
Brian Jean who fights for the Alberta oilfield and families affected by the harsh economy was quick to respond.
In a news release, Wildrose Leader Brian Jean said Trudeau’s remarks “confirm Albertans’ worst fears about his Liberal government and its plans for our energy sector.”
“By vowing to ‘phase out’ the oil sands, Mr. Trudeau has declared his true feelings towards our province, and Western Canada as a whole,” said Jean.
“The economic benefits of the oil sands are immeasurable.”
Phasing out oilsands will cost millions of jobs, replacing them with what? Something’s that not yet invented and will cost billions of dollars.
Trudeau has a grudge against Alberta and we can see why, please share this article to let the rest of Canada know.

We no longer have a government for the people and for the development and prosperity of the people... we have a government controlled by 'technocrats' .. if this word 'technocrat' is a new term to you or you are trying to understand what it means just know that in simple terms its a 'scientific unelected dictatorship' .. the same people promoting 'carbon tax'  [ #carbon tax is theft ! ] .. learn more at "Technocracy Rising" by Patrick Wood http://technocracy.news .. to be part of the push-back against these 'technocrats' and 'scientists' who influence government and policy and have Trudeau on their leash get active in promoting Canada's industry resource sector... get in touch with Canada Action ... for tshirts and more [free stickers can be mailed to you if you request them by email]

THIS MATTERS:
Because just sitting back and doing nothing while Trudeau's policy destroys existing industry makes no sense to anyone who is paying attention... at this point .. we are in a battle for our country's future prosperity.. we are being told that the use of oil and gas and coal are dirty and bad and polluting and that our use of these resources harms the environment and that carbon is pollution and that co2 causes climate change.... these are all false and misleading and these detrimental premises will be used to diminish our capacity to be productive in industry and in our lives and will lead to further de-industrialization and lowered prosperity.  Without developing our own ethical Canadian resources and being free to develop we will become a nation dependant on foreign oil, or worse, a third world nation with the wrong priorities and lack for human concern.

Cucked Cdn Mayor's Climate Rant: Town Says No to Energy East

Obviously this sends a message to Canadian ethical oil and gas industries... SACKVILLE DOES NOT SUPPORT YOU .. this is an epic fail and one that did not go unnoticed by industry... the question is this:  Does the Mayor really think most Canadians are concerned about jobs and economy or are they wrapped up in climate fear like he is... see my earlier post on pipelines and protestors here  .. I didn't think that we could have so much stupid on town council... but there you have it ... way to go elected minions.. way to work for the 'technocrats' and anti-human anti-development, crony green eco-fascists... I won't be supporting this Mayor in the next election.. I don't like his priorities at all.  Support Canadians at work in oil and gas -- ethical industry -- in Canada here ... of further note.. this Mayor is clearly on board with carbon tax/carbon pricing.. I'm not .. #stop the carbon tax #carbon tax is theft #stop the technocracy

As for the presentations by the vocal shrill minority in NB ... the usual suspects' finger prints are all over this 'production' ... including Prof. Brad Walters, an extremely aggressive man, an eco-radical and someone who chose to yell in my face dramatically at local pub book signing event a while back... and also, the infamous 'climate parent' Mark D'arcy who is perpetually afraid of climate and fossil fuels.... and spreads propaganda to all corners of New Brunswick Canada as a career.... far be it from little old me to interfere with their theatrical production in the 'town hall stage'.  Geez.
